Hi friends,

As I mention in the beginning of the podcast, this came about only because the questions I had for DCEF were severely long, and he suggested this mix-media format with some audio and some writing, which I’m grateful for because it got me to try out doing a podcast on this newsletter which felt a little extra given I have a podcast. The thing is, though, I could talk for hours and days and lifetimes about this stuff, and trying this out was fun, and filling, and I think it yielded a pretty valuable conversation.

This is a companion piece for Sunday’s newsletter, which was a long form Q&A with Dr. Carl Fisher, author of The Urge and an addiction psychiatrist. This podcast was actually recorded prior to him answering those questions, and in it we go deep on a few topics, like whether there is such a thing as an addictive personality, how far from the point arguing about whether addiction is a disease actually is, why treatment is a palliative and the need for us to look wider …
