Thank you for normalizing my pain. I can not mobilize yet. I am overwhelmed with this great fear, grief, and disbelief. I wonder if I am over reacting.. I wonder if I am suffering from a mental health crisis. I just know the pain is real.
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! Reading this as I digest my pie. Just finished English Teacher tonight - so sweet and hilarious! I highly recommend Somebody Somewhere on Max if you haven’t watched yet. Different vibe but also sweetly funny.
Oh I love Somebody Somewhere. We also are very into what we do in the shadows and last man on earth right now which are both innocent-ish. And lol thanks for correcting me
Actually, my last post was about autistic burnout. I'd been too burned out to do much writing before that (and I felt like explaining a several months long absence). I've been feeling a little better, lately, but I use my energy up like an addict the minute I get any, so there's none left for most posting, yet. I'm so grateful that you're posting the things that you're posting about.
I can't find which one! Just signed up. I understand completely about using up your energy; one of my friends, Greta Morgan (I'm writing about her next week) had covid three times and has LC, and has very very limited energy, and she basically plans her life around her nervous system which has influenced me to do the same. Really excited to read what you wrote about.
Two books! That are keeping me going right now are Rebecca Solnit's Hope in the Dark and Resmaa Menakem's The Quaking of America: An Embodied Guide to Navigating Our Nation's Upheaval and Racial Reckoning.
Hope in the Dark was originally published in 2004 but holds up very well to this moment. Quaking is simultaneously cold & dark, and warm & empowering.
Looking forward to your list. I'm now 15 months AF and believe being out of alcohol's thrall is a huge, huge factor in my ability to get through All This. Cheers!
Hope in the Dark is so good and timeless, I saw her in 2017 talking about its relativity; I also love her new climate book. 15 months!!! Amazing Anna. So beautiful <3
Thank you Holly. As usual your well thought out description of yourself, your feelings and what you are learning is both educational and inspiring. I this "Being mad at each other is a luxury none of us has any longer. It doesn’t work; it’s what got us here; it will keep us here and eventually destroy us" Anger, in our addiction world, is a luxury is said to be left to those better equipped to handle it (although I would argue that no one can really handle it). We we know for sure is anger, resentment and hate, kills, literally and figuratively. I don't want to be part of that at all. And like you long for a space filled with listening, validating, compassion and love. I would so much love to have a chat with you on the Confident Sober Women podcast. I would love to share your perspectives on your own journey through pain, transformation, and how listening and and love are the key to our peace. Let's do it, you can email me, shelbyjohn02@gmail.com
aww thanks Shelby <3 I've been turning down everything including paid gigs just because the exposure and effort hurts. You can email contact@hollywhitaker.com, we are collecting interest for my next book launch when I'll be in that mode again. Enjoying time off from that for now. Big love (and also we're giving early copies out of my Audible guide to influencers/podcasts so email contact@hollywhitaker.com for that too)
Amazing insights as always. I read through most of the comments after your video, which brought me to tears 😭 I thought: life is so hard yet so beautiful. Rather than acting from a sense of urgency, I'm trying to cultivate presence, and connections with others-people IRL & in this community-are what sustain me. A huge virtual hug 🤗 to everyone

Cap to Cap, I've been looking forward to the Pluto thing all year because I *needed it*
GIRL
This post gave Marie Forleo and Gabby Bernstein vibes <3 (Not being on fire today)
<3 I'll take it.
The vibes have most definitely and irrevocably shifted, and I am here for it.
yesssss

Not to be an asshole but that viral hiking post is actually bad advice: https://www.backpacker.com/survival/running-out-of-phone-battery-dont-change-your-voicemail/
Update: Eliza is sitting near me and I am reading her this article and our conclusion is to stop using the internet. Love you AS.
😂😂 love you too 😘

Dear Holly, a hug from me from the Netherlands. Thank you, as always
Such a lovely big hug to you Josh.

The cottage industry for expatriates link doesn’t work…:
I tried to find it, I deleted the links from my notes app :(

Yes. YES. This. Thank you.
I just read a great essay last night that you might enjoy too, regarding the 'urgency' you speak of here, especially in the calls for community, etc: https://grouphug.substack.com/p/interdependence-is-a-survival-skill
ohhhh thank you Taylor!! Reading now
